Understanding Klaviyo Flow Filters
Flow filters are useful when one wants to target specific subscriber behaviors or attributes. Flow filters operate at the profile level, meaning they will evaluate whether or not someone qualifies based on properties about them or actions they have previously taken. Flow filters are checked when someone first enters a flow and before each action takes place.
If someone fails an element in a flow, they will continue to move through the flow, but they will be skipped from each step until they exit the flow or depending on the flow, they will be skipped for the step they missed and still be prepared for the next step. Klaviyo reevaluates them each time they hit another “actionable” element and if the subscriber fails the initial trigger, they will simply not start the flow itself.
Using Flow Filters in Klaviyo's Automation Workflows
One can add multiple filters to better target the audience. A common example of using a flow filter can be found in the abandoned cart flow. Adding a flow filter at the top such as ‘has started checkout zero times since starting this flow’, will mean that before each email, the flow filter will be applied to check if the subscriber has taken that action since starting the flow. This will ensure that people only receive a flow email after they started a checkout but did not place an order.
To see who entered the flow but failed the flow filter before an action, navigate to Analytics (Last 30 Days) > Recipient Activity > Other. Here, you will find the Skipped: Fails Flow Filters bucket.

Segment Trigger
The Segment trigger in Klaviyo allows you to define a group of conditions that will influence the growth or reduction of your segment. By setting up a flow based on when someone new is added to a segment, you can ensure that everyone who meets a specific set of conditions is queued for the flow.
Metric Trigger
The Metric trigger enables you to send people through a flow when they take a particular action. This action can be any event activity captured through an integration or events created via the Klaviyo API. By utilizing the Metric trigger, you can set up automated flows that respond to specific actions taken by your contacts.
Price Drop Trigger
The Price Drop trigger allows you to alert contacts when an item they viewed or initiated checkout with experiences a decrease in price. This feature can be configured to notify individuals when the price drops by a certain amount or percentage, providing a valuable opportunity to re-engage potential customers with personalized notifications.
Date Property Trigger
Klaviyo's Date Property trigger is a versatile tool that enables you to initiate flows based on specific dates or date ranges. Whether you want to start an automated flow on a predetermined date or before a specific date, this trigger makes it easy to schedule and automate your email campaigns around important dates and events.
Trigger Filters in Klaviyo
When setting a trigger, such as a price drop, Klaviyo allows you to apply trigger filters to narrow down the scope and target a specific subset of your contacts. These trigger filters evaluate the data from the event that activates the flow, focusing on factors like price drops or other metrics rather than profile properties. By using trigger filters, you can refine your automated flows to reach a more targeted audience and improve the effectiveness of your email campaigns.

Differences Between Klaviyo Flow Filters And Trigger Filters
1. Use case
Klaviyo filters are used to narrow down triggers and actions within flows, a flow filter is used in the following instances
When you want to target a specific group of people
When you want to target a specific behaviour within that group.
Flow filters are used to ensure that only specific persons are eligible to receive emails. It may be used whenever users enter the flow, as well as before each email that is sent.
When a person joins the flow, both trigger and flow filters are applied. If they fulfill the trigger but not the flow filter requirements, they will be unable to enter the flow and will not get any of the scheduled emails.
2. Trigger filters are all about one event
A trigger filter is only evaluated when an event occurs and only concerns itself about that event. So, if someone starts a flow with merely a trigger filter, they will enter the flow. It makes no difference what they do after they enter this flow. They just have to satisfy this requirement once.

It's important to note that only price drop- and metric-based flows can have trigger filters. With this, you can allow people to enter a flow based on the selected trigger. You can create conditions to filter the flow. Conditions like: all those who fail to meet the trigger and flow filter will be filtered out at once and won’t receive your emails.
Those who get past the flow trigger and flow filter can enter the flow and receive messages based on the time period that you have specified. Flow filters can be checked one more time before sending an email or an SMS to ensure that your clients meet the necessary criteria. When your SMS or email is ready to send, Klaviyo will automatically apply the flow filter for those who are eligible and will skip those who fail the filter.

Setting An Additional Filter For A Single Flow Message
Additional filters are like flow filters but only apply to a single message within the scope of the entire flow. Klaviyo flow filters, I know that these additional filters can be essential in tailoring specific messages after a person has triggered a broader event. So, for instance, if you want to send an email to everyone who has signed up for your newsletter, but exclude those who have already made a purchase - you can use additional filters to narrow your audience to a single message.
By clicking on the message card and scrolling down to the additional filters section in the email details panel, you can set up the filter conditions in the same way as flow filters. Once you've defined the conditions for the additional filters, make sure to click Save at the bottom of the panel.
