Step 1: Navigate to the "Coupons" Tab in Klaviyo

After your Klaviyo account is integrated with your eCommerce platform, you can access the "Coupons" section in Klaviyo to create and manage coupon codes.

Step 2: Click Create Shopify Coupon

To get started, click on the "Create Shopify Coupon" (depending on the e-commerce platform you use) in the upper right-hand corner.

Step 3: Set Coupon Properties in Klaviyo

Define properties for each coupon:

Name

Helps you identify the coupon

Prefix

Adds a specific prefix to each code

Discount Type

Choose fixed amount off, percentage off, or free shipping

Applies To

Customers can apply the coupon to the entire order, specific products, or collections

Require Minimum Purchase

Set a minimum purchase amount to use the coupon

Step 4: Set Activation and Expiration Dates

Activation

Set the coupon to become active immediately or on a specific date

Expiration

Choose from never expire, valid for a set number of days, or set an end date

Step 5: Click Create Coupon

Once you’ve filled in all the details, click "Create Coupon" to generate the coupon code.

Using Klaviyo Coupons Codes In Flows and Campaigns

When I want to use a coupon in one of my flow messages, Klaviyo will automatically create coupon codes in advance and have them ready to send as new people enter the flow. This ensures that no two recipients will have the same coupon code, which helps limit usage and sharing.

Here’s how I use the coupon in a flow email

1. Open up a flow email inside one of my flows.
2. Add a coupon tag with the following format into my flow email template: {% coupon_code 'NAME_OF_YOUR_COUPON' %}
3. Replace NAME_OF_YOUR_COUPON with the coupon name (it must be an exact match of the name, including capitalization).
4. Save my changes.

Using Klaviyo Coupons in Campaign Emails

If I want to send a coupon code in a campaign, I need to manually create the coupon codes before the campaign is sent or scheduled. To generate new coupon codes, I simply click on the dropdown arrow of the coupon and click on “Add Codes”. I can then enter the number of codes I want to generate and click on “Submit”. Klaviyo will start creating coupon codes for the campaign. I can monitor the progress bar that appears beneath the coupon name to display progress or track the number of codes that have been created in the Available/Total column.

After the coupon codes have been generated, I can include the coupon tag in my campaign template

1. Drag and drop a text block wherever I want the coupon to appear in my campaign.
2. Add a coupon tag in the text block using the following format: {% coupon_code 'NAME_OF_YOUR_COUPON' %}
3. Replace NAME_OF_YOUR_COUPON with the coupon name (it must be an exact match of the name, including capitalization). Note that this should be the name of the coupon from the Name section in the Coupon Details (not the prefix).
4. Save my changes.

This is just a preview, and the actual coupon code will only be generated when the email is sent to a recipient. To confirm that the dynamic coupon code is indeed working correctly, send a test email to yourself. This will help you make sure that the recipients will receive the correct and functional coupon code in the email.
